Situation: Ready to go to work, you go down to the garage to drive there... Car doesn't start. Shite! Use CoB's car to go to work. Get (free!) tow to mechanic. Three hours or so later and here's the decision presented to you:

1. $5500 for a new engine, with labor included, call it an even $7K; no financing, 140K mileage on the original car.

2. Get a new (for me) vehicle; this means playing "where's the financing" and possibly painful negotiation process. End up with a monthly payment with no trade in, etc.

Screwed either way. At least I can store the non-working car at the mechanics for free for a couple of weeks.

Car hunting tomorrow. Wish me luck with the finding and financing of the next piratical transport device.

Ew. Hope you find something affordable and reliable soon!

On another note, it's good to see you posting again!

Did, and done!

Why thank you! I've been so wrapped (started typing warped) up at work that I've only had time to occasionally read my F-list, but didn't have any time to get any more posting than those that were fed in by the Twitter.

Oh no! I hope the car and credit searches go well.

Yes, it did.

Yeah. We made a point to go to a dealership that had treated CoB, his brother and father well. All three bought from these folks and I had sat in on two of the three experiences. Thought that was my best bet.

Damned if I can remember the HTML code to put this link into the word "Ahem."

Sorry. Wasn't meaning to be dense. Somehow I hadn't seen the post.

ugh.

only good thing about being forced into new wheels is you have the chance to get a car that's maybe a better fit for you today than when you first acquired the recently departed.

You said it

I just wish these kinds of things didn't happen so unexpectedly. It wouldn't have hurt for it to have waited a year. That's when I'd planned on getting a new(er) vehicle.
