Perhaps not so bad as falling, but something terrible has occurred. Anyone remember the fashionable 80's? Specifically the ever so wonderful shirt-dress? I actually had one of these and thought it was quite sweet at the time, with one of those wide belts to cinch it... but seeing it now, paired with one of those super-short vest-jackets. *shudder*

much as I like french cuffs... blech. not only does it make women appear like they are partially undressed they do the additional insult by dehumanizing the model herself with the deletion of the top of her head. this top of the head missing from the model is a signature for gap, btw.

I can't even begin to comment on the 80s comeback fashions, but I just saw a woman yesterday who was short, squat and in a white shirt dress that was too short, annnnd she wasn't wearing a slip. So, nothing against the short and squat, as that pretty much describes me to a T, but man oh MAN was that a fashion don't on like, 600 levels.

I think the '80s are getting recycled for a similar reason the '70s got recycled during the late '90s... Maybe I'm just cynical (or naive for all I know) but I'm convinced that the fashion industry can't come up with anything new for lack of major technological innovations (think about how, say, rayon changed the fashion scene). It's just a suspicion. (I'm the type to wear t-shirts and jeans.)

Fashion runs in 20 year cycles, at least in the mass market. In the 80s, there was a 60s revival. In the 70s there was a 50s revival, and so on. Periodically there are innovations that come along to change the scene and there are always exceptions, of course, but as a rule, there's a lot of recycling of ideas in fashion.

The shirt dress looks okay on the slim; back in the 80s I liked shirt dresses and looked good in them, but, then, back in the 80s I was slim.

Still, I can't possibly loathe any fashion style more than baggy dresses over pants.

As for the heads being cut off, one can find outrage if one wants to find outrage, I suppose, but the actual marketing mind behind cutting off the heads is to make you look at the outfit, not the model. Fashion is an extremely competitive industry and if you're making trendy clothes to appeal to trendy people, you don't want a minor thing like "I don't like her face" to make people dismiss your clothing line. Yes, "I don't like that model's face" is a reason people wouldn't buy clothes. I don't get it myself as I'm far more interested in the model's body so I can try and calculate how that same outfit would look on my body (for example, if the model is super-slim and the outfit is a little snug, it's probably going to be a LOT snug on my ample frame, which sometimes I might want and sometimes I might not).

I would generally avoid shopping at the Gap anyway; they are overpriced for the low quality of their product.
