And who's to say that there hasn't been a civilization before that worked all this stuff out and was subsequently destroyed to the point where all but the kernels of knowledge were preserved as an oral tradition of mysticism? Hrmmm. Think about it, if everything was biodegradable, what would be left as proof? :D
