Has anyone heard of The Pickens Plan? What do you think of it and do you think it is something people should get behind and support? Does it sound reasonable and doable?

I've heard of it, and I like at least the first part of the plan - renewable energy. Fixed cost energy generation = awesome. Energy drives the economy by doing work that would otherwise have to be done manually, so the cheaper and more abundant it is, the better the economy is. I'd add solar to that mix, and wave power, etc. - but wind alone can provide quite a boost.

As far as using natural gas to fuel cars - I'm hoping that we can go to fully-electric cars pretty soon. I'd totally go for a cityZENN if/when they become available.

Do you think though, if this were used as a stepping stone say, that this would be a good cause to push? As a series of intermediate steps toward self-sufficient power generation here in the United States?

This is an immediately available and implementable technology rather than a someday product.

Yes, I do think it's a good idea. You do have to consider that even if all the wind power generation and distribution capacity were built today, and all the natural gas fueling stations we could possibly need were built today, it'd still take about 7 years to get MOST gasoline cars off the road because of how often people replace cars.

This is actually not a bad thing, because it'll still bring down the price of crude oil by bringing down demand for it, in the very first year. Plus during those seven years, other alternatives are likely to come out - including fully electric cars!
